Former President Muhammadu Buhari praised the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision, claiming it is proof that “democracy and the people” won the election on February 25, 2023.

In a statement by his media assistant, Garba Shehu, Buhari praised the Tribunal’s five members for refusing to be intimidated while upholding the law.

The former president pleaded with Nigerians to fully support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in order for him to fulfill his campaign promises.

As he continued, “With the court’s ruling, the election period is finished and it is time to put the heat and dust behind us. If anyone has triumphed, it is the democracy and the people.

The Tribunal, according to the previous President, has “written history” by rejecting intimidation and all forms of prejudice in order to deliver justice.

In a unanimous decision on Wednesday, a five-member tribunal panel chaired by Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed the petitions contesting Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election.

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate for president, Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) had all filed lawsuits contesting Tinubu’s victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.
