Tony Elumelu, chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation has dismissed claims that he is considered the next Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Elumelu, a former Managing Director of United Bank for Africa (UBA), one of Nigeria’s leading commercial banks made the dismissal when reacting to a social media post on Friday.

An X user, Imran Muhammad had in a post on June 12, 2023, claimed that President Bola Tinubu was considering the renowned banker as the next head of the Nigerian apex bank.

“According to a source, President Tinubu is also considering Tony O. Elumelu as CBN Governor,” he wrote. Eighty-one days later, he reacted to the post, “LOL. No please. This is false news,” he said in a post on X.

Since he retired from UBA in 2010, he has channelled his energy into his Foundation. The Foundation promotes entrepreneurship in Africa and empowers young people to achieve their dreams of building businesses.

In 2020, he was named on Time’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
