Victor Osimhen scored a brace as Rudi Garcia began his tenure as Napoli boss with a 3-1 win over Frosinone.

A penalty from Abdou Harroui had given the newly promoted team the lead, but goals from Osimhen and Matteo Politano, each side of a Matteo Politano effort, meant that the defending Serie A champions began with a win at Stadio Benito Stirpe.

Napoli began their Scudetto campaign with a 3-1 victory over Frosinone at Stadio Benito Stirpe in Serie A.

Despite a good start against the Serie A champions, Frosinone were defeated at home in their first league encounter of the season.

Five yellow cards, a penalty, three goals, and one more disallowed goal highlighted an action-packed first half.

Frosinone, urged on by their fans in the Italian heat, refused to sit back and let the favourites roll over them, instead taking the game on from the start.

Their efforts and pressure were rewarded early, and the home team seized the lead in the seventh minute thanks to a well-earned penalty.

Jaime Baez juggled the ball up and was kicked to the ground by Napoli’s Jens Cajuste, whose slicing advance only managed to make contact with the Uruguayan. Abdou Harroui scored from the penalty spot, shooting low to the keeper’s left.

The first half ended with both teams furious and lashing out, with five yellow cards issued throughout the half.

Napoli soon re-entered the game and, following an extended period of pressure, were level after 24 minutes.

The ball came into the middle and sat up perfectly for Matteo Politano, who lined it nicely beyond Frosinone’s reach.

Raspadori appeared to have put Napoli ahead on 34 minutes, but the goal was called out for offside far earlier in the sequence.

The away team actually did take the lead right before halftime, thanks to a superb finish from last season’s golden boot winner, Victor Osimhen.

His captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, used his strength to hold off the defender and make space for his striker, cutting the ball across to Osimhen in the middle, who launched it into the roof of the net.

The second half was more settled, with Napoli dominating. Osimhen completed an inch-perfect ball put through to him from the right to earn himself a brace and seal the three points for Napoli. The goal appeared to be offside, but a review allowed it to stand.
