    Major shake-up as Navy redeploys senior officers

    Three suspects in the kidnapping of Nigerian Navy Lieutenant Cynthia Akor have been apprehended by Naval Unit operatives in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

    Following the promotion of senior officers, the Nigerian Navy announced new assignments and the removal of senior officers yesterday in what it characterised as a routine restructuring exercise.

    According to Commodore Ayo-Vaughan, the Naval Spokesman, advancements of senior officers, including 52 rear admirals and 76 commodores, took place in December 2022.

    Rear Admiral Akano Adesope, a former Moderator at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, was named Admiral Superintendent Naval Ordinance Depot, while Rear Admiral Garba Abubakar was reappointed as the Nigerian Navy Delegate to the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

    Rear Admiral Kennedy Egbuchulam, former Director of Administration at Naval Headquarters, has been restored as the organisation’s first Chief of Communications and Information Technology. While Rear Admiral Adewale Olanrewaju, formerly Commander Nigerian Navy Ship WEY, will be appointed Director Standards, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Nnamdi Muogilim, formerly Chief of Defence Space Administration, Defence Headquarters, has been appointed Executive Director Operations, Navy Holdings Limited.

    Rear Admiral Fatah Sanusi, formerly the Defense Intelligence Agency’s assistant head of communication intelligence, is now the executive director of administration, human resources, and personnel management at Navy Holdings Limited.

    Rear Admiral Danjuma Moses, the previous Director of Training, takes over as Deputy Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, from Rear Admiral Nuhu Bala. Former Director of Transformation at Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Nuhu Bala, has been reappointed as Deputy Chief of Defence Space Administration at Defence Headquarters.

    According to the statement, Rear Admiral Vincent Okeke, a former director of logistics at Defense Headquarters, has been reassigned to that position as director of plans, and Rear Admiral Yakubu Wambai, the recently retired flag officer commanding the Western Naval Command, has been transferred to Defence Headquarters as director of the transformation.

    Rear Admiral Emmanuel Beckley, former Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Ordinance Depot, is transferred to the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Headquarters as the Director of Logistics, while Rear Admiral Domnan Dangwel, former Deputy Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Defence Headquarters, returns to Naval Headquarters as the D.A.

    Rear Admiral Tanko Pani, the former Director of Plans at Defence Headquarters, has been rehired as the Director of Training.

    Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole has been reappointed as Director of Communications, Naval Headquarters, in addition to other positions. Formerly the Deputy Director of Earth Observation, Defence Space Administration, Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Hamisu Sadiq is now the Director of Safety, at Naval Headquarters.
