Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state has revealed that he adopted Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in 100m hurdles “months back to support her career”.

Abiodun revealed this in his congratulatory message to Tobi Amusan who claimed gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon.

Amusan, a native of Ogun state, broke the world record in the semi-final before going on to beat tournament favourite, Britany Anderson of Jamaica in the final.

“We congratulate and rejoice with a proud daughter of Ogun State, whom I adopted some months back to support her career, Ms. Tobi Amusan on her world record-breaking (12.06sec) gold victory in Women’s 100M Hurdles.

The adoption of Tobi Amusan which took place on April 26 was initiated by the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare.

Dare through the adopt-a-talent program has encouraged governors, private citizens, and corporate entities to adopt some of the Tokyo Olympics athletes by contributing money directly to their accounts to aid in their early preparations for the Games.
