Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, the Oyo state Deputy Governor, is facing impeachment by some members of the state’s House of Assembly.

Members of the Assembly made this clear in a petition presented to the Assembly plenary on Wednesday.

Adebo Ogundoyin, the Speaker of the Assembly, presided over the meeting.

Recall that Olaniyan recently switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) (APC).

Some Assembly members, on the other hand, have petitioned the house for what they call “gross misconduct.”

The petition was signed by twenty-four members of the Assembly, out of a total of 32.

The petition’s 24 signatories stated that if the Deputy Governor does not reply to the claims, he will be impeached.

Yetunde Awe, the Clerk of the House, read the petition titled “Petition and Notice of an Allegation of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.”

Gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office, official duty and insubordination, among other claims, have been levelled against the Deputy Governor.

The lawmakers who signed the petition explained that their action was in line with the provision of the constitution.

They said, “Consequent upon listed below, we the under listed elected Honourable members of the 9th assembly hereby allege the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Eng. Rauf Olaniyan with the following allegations:

“Gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office, official duty and Insubordination and other offences.

“This is in accordance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in 2011. Section 188”.
