The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, says a panel of inquiry has been constituted to investigate the fire incident that occurred at its headquarters in Lagos.

Fire had on Monday engulfed the headquarters of the agency at the Lagos airport.
In its reaction, the agency had said that the immediate cause of the outbreak was unknown.

But a statement released Monday evening by the agency’s Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, said that a commitee had been set up to investigate the incident.

The statement noted that the Managing Director of FAAN, Saleh Dunoma, made the dsclosure after he inspected affected areas alongside his management team.

Mr. Dunoma said, “The committee will comprise representatives from the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Accident Investigation Bureau, the Authority’s Director of Security Services, representatives from Fire department, Safety department and Legal.
“The Legal representative would also serve as the Secretary to the panel.”

The committee, the statement added, would investigate the entire incident, with a view to evaluating the immediate and remote causes of the fire, determining the extent of damage, making recommendations to forestall future reoccurrence, amongst other issues that may arise during the cause of their investigation.

Acording to the FAAN boss, the committee is expected to turn in its reports in two weeks.

The MD, however, noted that the Nigerian Police Force would also continue its parallel investigation to unravel the cause of the incident.

Mr. Dunoma affirmed that the authority will not shut down its headquarters as operations will continue, since a larger section of the building was not affected.
