Nigerian duo of Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy and David Adeleke better known as Davido lost out on all nominations as 22-years-old South African singer Tyla won the inaugural edition of the Best African Music Performance at 66th Grammy awards held on Sunday.

The South African hit song ‘Water’ saw off competition from Burna Boy’s ‘City Boy” and Davido’s hit song ‘Unavailable’.

In other categories, Burna Boy‘s song ‘Alone’ lost to the trio of Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck and Edgar Myer’s song ‘Pashto’ which won the Global Music Performance category.

In the Best Melodic Rap Performance category, ‘All My Life’ by American rappers, Lil Durk and J Cole was prefered ahead of ‘Sittin’ On Top of the World’ by Burna Boy and 21 Savage.

In what looks like a night to forget for the Nigerian stars lost out in the Best Global Music Album category as their albums ‘I Told Them’ by Burna Boy  and Davido’s ‘Timeless’ album, individually lost to World fusion band Shakti’s ‘This Moment’.
