The Anglican Arch-Diocese of Enugu, on Sunday, distributed 550 bags of rice to 2,109 widows and needy women in Enugu State.

The Church also slaughtered and shared five cows and cooking condiments – onions, seasoning, and tin tomatoes – as part of its Christmas gifts to the people.

Chukwuma said the Church was surprised to see the mammoth crowd of women coming for the food items.

He added that “when I came, I was surprised because of the frightening number of women I met. I then asked if all of them were widows but was told that some were not, but hardship and hunger pushed them to come for assistance”.

The archbishop then pleaded with One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Veronica Dike, thanked the Church for giving hope to her and her children, especially for them to celebrate Christmas like other people.

She said “we are grateful to the Church and Archbishop Chukwuma for making this yuletide memorable for us,’’ Dike, a widow, said.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Fatima Abu, appreciated the Church for the care for the less privileged living in Enugu State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Anglican Arch-Diocese of Enugu had been distributing Christmas largesse to widows for over 21 years.
