President Jacob Zuma of South Africa has survived the move by some members of the African National Congress, ANC, to pass a vote of no-confidence against him. This development was revealed on Tuesday by a South African local media.

The move to oust Zuma was proposed by the Tourism Minister, Derek Hanekom at a meeting of the African National Congress’s governing committee over the weekend.

Beeld reported that the national executive committee, NEC, meeting ended without a formal vote to that respect.
However, the position of the committee on the issue is still unclear. No formal statement has been made to declare whether it has decided to keep Zuma through a less formal decision making process, or if it had just dropped the matter all together.

ANC said it will hold a media briefing at 1200 GMT on Tuesday to give details about the NEC meeting.
The Presidency stated that Zuma was scheduled to travel to Cuba to attend Fidel Castro’s funeral.

Before now, Zuma’s presidency has been plagued with several accusations of corruption. The nation’s anti-graft agency asked for a judge to investigate the allegations against the Zuma.

The report by the Public Protector watchdog, released on November 2, focused on allegations that businessman brothers Ajay, Atul and Rajesh Gupta had influenced the appointment of ministers. Zuma and the Gupta brothers have denied any wrongdoing.
