Anambra governor Chukwuma Soludo has called on voters in Nigeria’s south-east to support Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, saying the region should not “waste” votes on alternative candidates.
The Anambra governor made the appeal on Tuesday during his second-term inauguration at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square.
Soludo was sworn in by Onochie Anyachebelu at 11:47am, alongside his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
The ceremony drew top political figures, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima and former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Addressing attendees, Soludo said the south-east must adopt a strategic political approach ahead of 2027. He argued that while the aspiration for a president of Igbo extraction remains valid, the timing may not be immediate.
Instead, he urged the region to rally behind Tinubu, expressing confidence in the current administration and citing what he described as positive developments affecting the south-east.
“President Tinubu is a cerebral, courageous and patriotic Nigerian. We trust him to make a major difference for Nigeria and the south-east,” Soludo said.
The governor also called for unity within Anambra’s political space, urging opponents to put aside differences and focus on governance and development.
In his remarks, Shettima praised Soludo’s leadership style, describing him as a principled and ideas-driven public servant. He reaffirmed the federal government’s willingness to collaborate with the state, stressing that governance must prioritise citizens’ welfare over partisan interests.
