Professor Ahmed Adamu, a Nigerian petroleum economist and lecturer, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a resignation letter dated 31 December 2025, Adamu informed the PDP Ward Chairman of Kudu III Ward in Katsina Local Government Area that his decision takes effect immediately. He thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and requested that the letter be accepted as his official notice of resignation.

Copies of the letter were also addressed to the PDP Chairman in Katsina Local Government and the PDP Chairman at the state level, signalling a clear and definitive exit from the party’s structure.

Adamu is a well-known figure in Nigerian youth and political advocacy circles. He was elected on 12 November 2013 as the first global chairperson of the Commonwealth Youth Council, a position he held until March 2016. During this period, he represented Nigeria in several international and Commonwealth youth engagements.

He also served as the pioneer Chief Whip of the Nigerian Youth Parliament and is the author of a book focused on leadership and personal development. In late 2018, Adamu was appointed Special Assistant on Youth and Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2019 general election.

Politically, Adamu contested the PDP primary for the Katsina Central seat in the House of Representatives in 2018 but was unsuccessful.

As of the time of filing this report, Adamu has not disclosed his next political move, nor has the PDP issued an official response to his resignation. His exit adds to ongoing conversations about realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future electoral cycles.
