The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Ogundare Dare, has vowed to bring to book the perpetrators of a daredevil broad daylight bank robbery in Ikere-Ekiti on Wednesday.
Dare expressed “displeasure over the ugly incident” in a press release issued late Wednesday via the command’s verified X handle and said he has ordered a full-scale investigation to “ensure the perpetrators are trailed, arrested, and brought to book.”
The Chronicle NG reported Wednesday evening that three people were feared to have been killed in armed robbery attacks on two new-generation banks in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to sources, the armed robbers struck around 4.30 p.m. and blew the doors of the banks with dynamite before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.
According to an eyewitness who saw a blood-soaked, lifeless body around the gate of one of the banks, two others were killed by the robbers in another location in town.
The source said, “I can confirm the killing of a man at one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body was there until police arrived at the scene and people dispersed. I heard that two others were shot dead at another place.”
However, a police statement issued late Wednesday night stated that “the Commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.”
The police added, “While commiserating with the family members of those who were fatally affected and wishing those currently receiving treatment in the hospital a quick recovery, the commissioner calls for calm and implores everyone to go about their lawful businesses as the command will not rest until the hoodlums are made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Meanwhile, the command’s tactical squads as well as the military, who were deployed to the scene immediately after information was received, engaged the hoodlums, who abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush.
“The vehicles and motorcycles were recovered at the station.
“The commissioner enjoins anyone with useful information concerning the identities and/or whereabouts of armed hoodlums to contact the following GSM numbers: 08062335577, 07031620186, 08033470524, 07032152150, and 09064050086.”
