The police have invited for questioning the son and adopted daughter of ailing Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly called Mr Ibu.
As confirmed by Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of the actor, Jasmine, and Daniel, along with his brother Val, were invited by the police to question funds contributed by well-meaning Nigerians over Mr. Ibu’s health crisis.
Following weeks of accusations and counter-accusations about the signatory to the actor’s account, Mr. Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris, ordered their arrests on Wednesday evening.
Doris Ogala, a Nollywood actress, published the story on Instagram, claiming that Jasmine and the actor’s sons were arrested and imprisoned at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, amid allegations that Jasmine moved N300 million donated to the ailing actor from his account.
“Jasmine and Mr Ibu’s sons were arrested at Alagbon Police Station. They are detained there.
“Ibu’s wife alleged that Jasmine moved N300 million out of the account. Mr Ibu’s wife allegedly wanted them to buy her a new house with the money contributed so far for Ibu’s treatments. That’s why she arrested Jasmine. But the investigation states that the money contributed isn’t even up to N300 million,” she wrote.
However, speaking with reporters on Thursday, Chochoo confirmed that all three people were invited by the police over the actor’s account.
“Yes, they were all invited by the police. I won’t call it an arrest; the police invited them over Mr. Ibu’s account. However, Val is left out, as he knows nothing about what’s been happening. He just returned to the country.
“I have not been able to reach any of them,” Chochoo said.
When contacted for comments on the situation, Stella Maris, the wife of the ailing actor, declined to comment.
“Please, I do not want to say anything about it, please,” she said before ending the call.
As of the time of filing this report, all attempts to contact Jasmine have been futile.
Mr Ibu recently solicited financial assistance following a medical issue which led to the amputation of his leg.
