Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Jos, Plateau State, have arrested a doctor for allegedly harvesting a patient’s kidney without her consent.
The doctor, identified as Dr. Noah Kekere of Murma Hospital, Nasarawa Jos, is alleged to have harvested the kidney of Mrs. Kahinde Kamal during a surgery in 2018.
Alhaji Kamal, the husband of the victim, who accused the doctor of harvesting his wife’s kidney, stated that “we paid for the full cost of drugs and hospital bills as directed by the doctor.”
Kamal further stated that his wife was healthy before the operation, but shortly after the operation, she started complaining of severe pains.
“We managed the pain for years while visiting the same doctor,” he said.
“All of a sudden, just some days ago, around the end of August, the pains got extreme, and we had to go to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where it was confirmed that one of her kidneys had been removed,” he added.
Speaking further, he said, “What I want is justice. I want the world to know that this is the predicament that my wife is passing through.”
He, however, confirmed that the operatives of the Plateau Police Command, Nasarawa Gwom Police Station, have begun an investigation into the matter.
The police command in Plateau State had yet to comment on the issue at the time of filing this report.
