The Super Eagles of Nigeria turned up the heat, thumping Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 in front of a packed Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick.
Super Eagles had put 10 goals past their opponent in their previous meeting, and this was expected to be a walk in the park for the Super Eagles, which is exactly what happened on the night.
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 14th minute, and Ademola Lookman’s shot made it two at the break.
Taiwo Awoniyi, the in-form Nottingham Forest forward, got in on the act immediately after the restart with an acrobatic kick to make it three, and it became a celebration from there.
Victor gained and converted a penalty, and substitute Samuel Chukwueze assisted him to complete his hat trick.
Victor Boniface assisted Chukwueze as he scored in the waning seconds to secure a resounding victory.
Super Eagles of Nigeria won the group with 15 points thanks to the victory.
Osimhen’s goal brings his tally to ten, putting him in first place at the end of the qualifiers.
