The Zamfara State Police Command has apprehended a notorious kidnapper, Lawali Danhajiya, who is alleged to have specialized in kidnapping people in Gusau, the state capital.
ASP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, told journalists at the force headquarters in Gusau that the alleged kidnapper, Danhajiya, had been terrorising the Saminaka area of Gusau Town, the state capital. He said “the Police Tactical Team attached to Gusau Area Command acted on actionable intelligence that led to the arrest of the notorious kidnapper, Danhajiya.
“In the course of the investigation, one Mika’ilu lbrahim “m” of Saminaka clearly identified the suspect as one of the bandits that kidnapped him sometime in March 2023 at his residence in the Saminaka area. Another victim named Aina’u Aliyu “f” of the Saminaka area also identified the suspect as the one who kidnapped her on June 22, 2023.”
He further stated that Zubairu, 35, was apprehended by men of the command as the bandits were ready to attack a police unit in the state.
Abubakar stated that the case was being investigated and that the suspect would be charged in court once the inquiry was completed.
Also, Umma Zubairu, a female informant who worked for Dan Karami, a dreaded kidnapper, was also apprehended.
According to him, the informant was apprehended in connection with a planned attack on a police formation in Zurmi Local Government Area’s Rukudawa hamlet.
He added, “Police operatives attached to Zurmi Division acted on credible information that some group of armed bandits were planning to carry out an attack on police formations in the Zurmi Local Government area.
“On receiving the information, the DPO led a team to investigate the matter, which resulted in the arrest of one Umma Zubairu of Rukudawa village in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state. She was arrested on July 16, 2023, at about 0430 hrs. in connection with the planned attack on policemen at Zurmi Division.”
He stated that during interrogation, the subject admitted to being an informant for bandit an Karami. “The suspect will be charged to court for prosecution” he added.
