Chelsea are reportedly in talks with Roma over a potential loan move for Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea are willing to accept a season-long loan move after being unable to sell Lukaku.
previous employers Inter pulled out of transfer talks earlier this summer after his advisers spoke with Juventus in private, and it looks like a transfer to join the Old Lady has fallen through, with fans storming their own pitch in protest of the signing.
However, his future could still be in Serie A, with Roma willing to bring him to the Italian capital until the end of the 2023–24 campaign.
Chelsea are eager to remove him from their payroll since the 30-year-old is the club’s biggest earner, earning £325,000 a week.
If he joins the Giallorossi, he will be reunited with Jose Mourinho.
The Special One brought the Belgium international to Old Trafford from Everton in 2017 for an undisclosed fee. They also worked together at Chelsea during Mourinho’s second stint at the club.
Mourinho has hinted at a possible deal for Lukaku in the aftermath of Roma’s signing of Sardar Azmoun.
In a press conference ahead of the clash against Verona, Mourinho stated that “when the director proposed Azmoun to me, he told me that another one was coming.
“If the other is a quality striker… [Andrea] Belotti, Azmoun, and another give us good options for attack.
“I’m quietly waiting. Now I’m thinking about tomorrow; we’ve worked on this, and we hope.”
Speaking regarding Lukaku’s future, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said, “At the moment, we are relaxed, and nothing happened.
“If something changes, we will inform you. If the player and club’s wish is to find a solution, it’s not me, it’s them”.
