A Social Media influencer simply referred to as No. 1 Ekiti Influencer, has bemoaned the lack of adequate infrastructure at the Ekiti NYSC orientation camp in Ise Ekiti.
In a post via her verified Twitter handle, she argued that “the NYSC orientation camp in Ekiti doesn’t represent what Ekiti state or government stands for”. she drew the attention of the State Government to the lack of adequate lecture hall and what she called “unhygienic” environment in the camp.
According to her, “Corp members take lectures every day, for 3weeks, under the sun, in the middle of smelling toilets”.
Also, she stated that “there’s little privacy, especially for ladies during the day. Because if you want to defecate, you’ll have to carry your potty to use the toilet, where people are sited at the front and side”.
Her post reads “I’m calling the attention of the Ekiti State Government to the NYSC orientation camp, Ise Ekiti.
“Every year, thousands of youths are opportune to come to Ekiti state through NYSC, but there’s this thing about “First Impression”
“The first-hand experience people get in a new environment shapes how they see and their perspective about that place.
“Firstly, I sincerely don’t know if this is the responsibility of the state, but I believe in our dear Governor @biodunaoyebanji and his love for this state.
“The NYSC orientation camp in Ekiti doesn’t represent what Ekiti state or government stands for. I’m not talking about the officials (they’re all amazing) but the environment. Corp members take lectures every day, for 3weeks, under the sun, in the middle of smelling toilets.
“There’s little privacy, especially for ladies during the day. Because if you want to defecate, you’ll have to carry your potty to use the toilet, where people are sited at the front and side. Those in the hostel beside the medical center can relate”.
She further lamented that Corp members are quick to redeploy to other states because they automatically think Ekiti is a dirty and “local” (retrogressive) State.
“The environment is unhygienic. You can’t convince a youth that’s currently uncomfortable that there are opportunities in town because he automatically thinks Ekiti state is dirty and local, I mean, ‘look at the environment now’. Everybody just wants to redeploy I don’t blame them”.
She urged the State Government and NYSC to provide a befitting hall, clean toilets with accessible water and also to renovate the hostels.
“That camp needs;
– A Big Hall! A roof over the heads of Corp members .
– Clean toilets with accessible water (borehole).
– expand & renovate the hostels.
“The state of that camp is a dent on our image. I honestly hope @ekitistategov see this and swing into action”. She said.
“We’re not expecting orientation camp to be as comfortable as our homes, but it should be conducive and a hygienic environment for all. It’s another way we can properly sell the state. It’s also “Changing the Narrative” she added.
