There was heavy Police presence across churches in Osun on Sunday, July 23, 2023, following the threat of attack on Churches in Osun state.
Security operatives were deployed in large numbers to many of the worship centers in the state to ensure a hitch-free worship.
On Saturday, an anonymous Facebook message surfaced threatening to harm churches during Sunday services, causing concern in the state.
Armed police officers were stationed in the majority of the churches visited on Sunday to ensure the safety of people and properties.
Police cars and arm-wielding officers were observed all around St. Benedict Catholic Church, Popo, Osogbo; Living Faith Church, State Headquarters, Osogbo; Cherubim and Seraphim; and number one, Celestial Church, Ayetoro.
Similarly, personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were stationed at the entrances to several other churches to guarantee calm worship.
When reached, Osun State Police Command spokesperson Yemisi Opalola stated that security has been deployed to many churches across the state since the threat was made public on Saturday.
“Across the state so far, there has been no report of any incident in all the churches, and cooperation across security agencies helped put the situation under control”, she said.
