The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action conditionally, a member of the union’s National Executive Committee said Friday morning.
Chronicle NG reports that the eight-month ASUU strike commenced on 14 February, 2022.
The union suspended its industrial action after a marathon meeting which began on Thursday night till the early morning of Friday.
In a one-line post on its official Twitter account, the union wrote, “The Academic Staff Union of Universities has suspended the strike,” the tweet read.
ASUU did not however explain why it called off the strike although it had hinted that the meeting was to determine its next line of action after its state branches met over the Court of Appeal ruling last week.
The meeting was attended by members of the union’s National Executive Committee, which comprises the chairmen of the state chapters and members of the national executive, attended the meeting in Abuja.
The Court of Appeal had ordered the union to suspend the strike before its appeal of the ruling ordering lecturers to resume work can be heard.
Chronicle NG reports that ASUU is yet to announce if it will appeal the decision of the appellate court.
