Governor Simon Lalong has approved the payment of fifteen year backlog of licenses owed by the Plateau Radio and Television (PRTV) to the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The state-owned TV and radio stations owed the NBC N114,500,000.00 over the last 15 years.
Lalong’s action comes after the broadcasting regulatory body vowed to revoke the licenses of Plateau Radio and Television (PRTV).
Plateau Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang, said the state-owned media was grateful to Lalong for his progressive act of commitment and resilience, noting that, PRTV assures him that it will rise up to the occasion by discharging its mandate with utmost decorum, responsibility and professionalism.
“The Ministry of Information and Communication as well as management and staff of PRTV consider the governor’s intervention as a boost to action which will translate to greater commitment to duty by rejigging the Corporation’s programme content and service delivery,” Manjang said in a statement.
“By this development, the era of lackadaisical attitude, truancy and unprofessionalism by staff of PRTV should be eschewed as any breach will not be tolerated.”
