The councillor representing Ward 6 Central in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Samuel Ben, has been reportedly abducted by unidentified gunmen on Saturday.
Confirming the abduction, SP Odiko Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the victim was kidnapped at his filling station premises on Saturday, September 25, at about 8 pm.
SP Macdon confirmed the incident to newsmen in Eket on Tuesday.
The PPRO described the incident as “very unfortunate and unacceptable’’, adding that Mr. Andrew Amiengheme, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered an investigation into the incident.
Macdon said, “Yes, we’ve received a preliminary report about the incident and we’re working on it.
“As I speak, a discreet investigation is ongoing, so I cannot deny the fact that we have that information at hand.
“A lot is being done already and in no distance time, I think he’ll be freed.
“I don’t want to prompt the outcome of the investigation and efforts made by the police to ensure the victim is freed.”
Macdon reiterated that the police has deployed all its assets to ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are arrested and the victim released.
Meanwhile, Usman Gonna, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, on September 17, ordered the police in Akwa Ibom to investigate the abduction of two prominent sons of the state.
The prominent sons of the state who are still in the custody of the abductors are Senator Nelson Effiong and Dr Nsidibe Umana.
Both were kidnapped in Akwa Ibom on September 5 and September 7, respectively.
