A senior staff member of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, has been murdered in his residence by unknown gunmen.
Abubakar Muhammad, who was the Chief Electrical Engineer of the Physical Planning Directorate of the institution, was killed in his home in Burshin Fulani, sited in the outskirts of Bauchi Metropolis.
Reports say that Muhammad was murdered around 2am on Saturday morning.
The senior staff of Bauchi Poly reportedly came out of his home to investigate a troubling sound of unknown assailants struggling with his sons at the gate.
According to eyewitnesses, he was shot dead immediately he stepped out of his house.
The Bauchi state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakili, confirmed the incident adding that a police patrol team stationed at the polytechnic gate rushed in the direction where the shots were heard.
Wakili said that the gunmen fled the scene as soon as they sighted the police. The victim was rushed to the teaching hospital in Bauchi where he was confirmed dead.
In a related incident, a Construction Manager, Alhaji Danjuma was killed by armed bandits in his residence in Kafin Tafawa area.
Kafin Tafawa is a short distance from the community where the senior staff of Bauchi Polytechnic was killed.
Residents of the area also confirmed that one person was kidnapped around Bayara and a motorcycle stolen on the same night.
The police however assured residents that they will go after the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
