A source in the Presidency has dismissed reports on social media that President Muhammadu Buhari will be marrying a second wife on Friday, 11 October in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The stories that started as a nonsensical joke, soon started generating some attention on social with different hashtags for the fake wedding trending between number one and five on Twitter.
#BUSA19, #BUSA2019, #TheWedding and Villa are some of the keywords that have been used loosely on Twitter to describe the purported wedding.
Many Nigerians have since realised it is a joke and fake news with most them making fun of it.
A source in the Presidency that spoke to Chronicle NG described the rumour as laughable, stressing that, there is no wedding taking place at the Villa.
The source told this newspaper that it is a fabrication that got out of hand and has become a big joke.

With Nigeria battling fake news almost on a daily basis, this appears to be the biggest of them all in recent weeks.
