Senator Jibrin Barau, the senator representing Kano South senatorial district, has emerged as the Deputy Senate President.
Former Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, nominated Barau, and the nomination was seconded by Saliu Mustapha, a Senator from Kwara North.
The distinguished senator accepted the nomination and was elected unopposed as the 10th Assembly’s Deputy Senate President.
Magaji Tambuwal, Clerk of the National Assembly, declared Barau as the Deputy Senate President after he ran unchallenged.
The Kano born senator had declared intentions to run for Senate Presidency, but after meeting with Tinubu and newly elected Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Kano senator withdrew and was appointed Deputy Senate President.
The unopposed winner was thereafter sworn in as Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
Earlier, Senator Godswill Akpabio was elected Senate President after he defeated Senator Abdulaziz Yari.
Akpabio secured 63 votes, beating Yari who got 46 votes.
