Nottingham Forest biggest fan in Nigeria Deji Tinubu is dead

Nottingham Forest biggest fan in Nigeria Deji Tinubu has died after he slumped while playing five-aside match with fellow participants at the ongoing retreat of members of the state executive council and permanent secretaries at the Jubilee Chalets, Epe, Lagos.

Doctors and nurses rushed to give him first aid and he was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Epe where he was confirmed dead.

An autopsy is expected to be carried out while burial arrangements will be announced by the family.

Deji Tinubu was the son of late Kafaru Tinubu, one of Nigeria’s foremost police officers. He is survived by an aged mother, Bintu Tinubu and wife, Yemisi.

Tinubu was sworn in as Special Adviser on Sports and Chairman of the State’s Sports Commission on October 19, 2015.

The Lagos State Government has expressed shock and disbelief in the sudden death of Mr. Deji Tinubu, the Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.

The government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, said it has reached out to members of Deji Tinubu’s immediate family to commiserate with them on the loss.

“We are still in shock. All of us at the State Executive Council are in disbelief.

He was a good and committed patriot who brought his passion to his job. He was a gentleman who maintained excellent team spirit. We shall miss him,” Bamigbetan said.

Tinubu was a huge supporter of sports and was seen as one of the future of Nigerian sports not just on a national level but on a global scale.

One more thing that stood him out was his support for little recognised Nottingham Forest in Nigeria.

As a sports analyst, Tinubu showed his support for Forest and was very proud of the club.

On Twitter, Nottingham Forest was urged to recognise Deji Tinubu.

” Your biggest fan in Nigeria, Deji Tinubu is dead. He sure deserves some tribute for the club he supported all his life. My prayers are with him and his family,” Bisuclef wrote.

Really shocked to hear about the passing of Deji Tinubu, he blessed morning radio with his knowledge of football. I cannot believe he has gone just like that, such cruel fate. Our condolences to his family and friends.
