The inauguration of President Uhuru Kenyatta has been greeted with protests at the Kasarani Sports Complex in Nairobi, the country’s capital city.

Thousands have gathered in Kenya’s largest stadium for the swearing in of President Uhuru Kenyatta after a months-long election controversy.

President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in stadium in military truck with protective glass shield and then greets cheering crowd from open podium.

The ceremony began amid heavy security in parts of the capital, Nairobi, following a call by the opposition for peaceful demonstrations in memory of dozens killed by police and militia while protesting Kenyatta’s re-election.

Police used tear gas to push back Kenyatta supporters to prevent them from entering the 60,000-capacity stadium, even though four stands behind the VIP area were kept empty.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari is represented by his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, at the second term inauguration of President Kenyatta.

Osinbajo is joined by other heads of State and Government from Africa and beyond who are expected at the swearing-in ceremony holding at the Kasarani Sports Complex in the country’s capital city.

The Vice President who leaves Abuja tonight would be accompanied by the Foreign Affairs Minister of State, Mrs. Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim and he is expected back in Abuja today.
