The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has set up a committee to investigate the use of funds disbursed by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to universities.

The Commission’s Chairman , Mr Ekpo Nta, made this known in Kaduna, on the sideline of a five-day strategic action plan implementation retreat organised for officials of the commission.

Nta told newsmen that the committee would identify the extent of use of such fund, short falls and abuse of the processes.

He explained that the goal was to tackle corrupt tendencies and ensure transparency.

The chairman noted that corruption thrives where opportunities for corrupt tendencies exist.

“Corruption is an opportunistic crime. The moment you give the opportunity people would seize the opportunity and perpetuate corruption.

“But when you close all doors that create room for people to be corrupt, they would have no option but to uphold their ethics and maintain integrity.

“This is what ICPC is doing; blocking all opportunities for corrupt tendencies and changing the mindset of Nigerians against corruption,” Nta said.

The ICPC boss reiterated the commission’s resolve to strengthen its mechanisms to eliminate corruption.

He added that the commission had already designed a national value curriculum which is being taught in secondary and primary schools.

“The idea is to address the thinking and perception of children as regard to ethics, civic responsibility and integrity, ” he said. (NAN)
